Patchwork Classes
Patchwork Squares Cushion
This class aims to teach the basics of patchwork and quilting and so is suitable for beginners. Students can gain skills in cutting, piecing and quilting. The cushion has an envelope back so there are no complicated construction methods. Patchwork does not have to be complicated to be pretty. Suitable for Beginners Duration - 6 weeks, 2 hours per class |
Squares Quilt
Students making this small quilt will learn the skills to make a quilt from start to finish. How to cut with a rotary cutter and ruler, how to lay out the quilt top and piecing on the sewing machine with 1/4" seam. The ten week class also allows time to learn how to quilt the three layers of the quilt together and make and attach a double fold binding. Suitable for Beginners Duration - 10 weeks, 2 hours per class |
Group Quilt
In this class, the group is guided to choose applique for each block. This may represent the interests of the group or perhaps individual ideas. The group will then go on to learn about putting the quilt together, quilting and binding it. Finally a label is added to the back of the quilt showing the name of the group and all those involved. This class has led some groups to begin a regular patchwork class as the students found it to be very rewarding. Suitable for Beginners Duration - 10 weeks, 2 hours per class |
Workshops
Ohio Stars Tablerunner
During this workshop students will learn the process of making Ohio Star blocks and how to put blocks on point. Sashing, posts and setting triangles are also taught in this workshop. The fabric colours make this runner suitable for Christmas but it could be made in other colourways to suit any time of year. Suitable for Improvers/ Intermediate Students Duration - One Day Workshop |
Wonky Stars Tablerunner
Students will learn the technique of making wonky star blocks with this tablerunner. These blocks are also effective in cushions or quilts and are a good way to use up scraps. As the runner has a pieced border, students will also learn how to attach this as it can be a bit trickier. Suitable for Improvers Duration - One Day Workshop |
Trapunto Feather Wallhanging
This class involves learning the art of trapunto whilst making a feather design. The feather has a raised appearance whilst the background area is free motion quilted with a stipple design. Experience of free motion quilting is required as both the feather and background area are stitched using this method. Suitable for Intermediate Students Duration - One Day Workshop |
Circling The Square
This is a Reverse Applique workshop involving cutaway circles. I use batiks because of the wonderful colours and tones but prints that read as solids could also be used to great effect. Decorative thread is used for the satin stitch. The wallhanging is 27 inches square and there is enough fabric to create the quilt top, backing and binding. Intermediate Level Duration - One Day Workshop |
